mahabis lifestyle // how to spend your extra hour this weekend

In preparation for the clocks going back this weekend, we’re suggesting ways in which you could spend your extra hour. The end of Daylight Saving Time may mean shorter days, but for this weekend at least, we get to enjoy the annual treat of an entire extra hour! We frequently ask our interviewees and ambassadors what they would do with an extra hour in the day, now it’s our turn to offer suggestions.

We don’t officially earn the extra hour until 2am on Sunday morning, but you can still incorporate this into how you spend your Saturday and Sunday even if you don’t intend to be awake at this time – either by going to bed an hour late on Saturday night or by waking up an hour early on Sunday morning. However you choose to spend it, don’t let the chance to take advantage of an entire extra 60 minutes this weekend slip out of your grasp.

Listen to music

Whether you prefer to listen to vinyl or Spotify, you could opt to spend your extra hour enjoying your favourite tunes. Listening to music you enjoy helps to increase dopamine levels. So.. an extra hour listening to music, could just be an extra hour of happiness. Why not. Check out last month's playlist here

Go for a walk

Autumn is our favourite time of year to get outdoors and enjoy the fresh air. Whether you decide to take a stroll around a local park or woodland, or travel a bit further afield for a refreshing hike, taking a walk amongst the colourful autumnal foliage is the perfect way to enjoy your extra hour.

Take a yoga class

Book onto a yoga class, or remove yourself from the usual weekend bustle and spend an hour meditating somewhere secluded. Yoga is the ideal way to relax after a busy week, calming your brain, energising your body and de-stressing whilst improving your health, flexibility and balance.

Read a book

Step away from technology for an hour and immerse yourself in a good book or new magazine. Spending time curled up on an armchair is the perfect way to relax and unwind, and is a great form of escapism which can help you to destress after a hectic week at work.

Relax with a glass of wine or cup of coffee

Arrange to catch up with friends and family over a glass or two of wine or a cup of coffee this weekend, taking advantage of the extra hour to see people who you may not have met up with for a while. It’s important to take time for yourself, but this can sometimes be difficult to factor into hectic weekends – making this weekend the perfect opportunity to seize advantage of the extra hour!

Take a relaxing bath

Hectic modern life means most of us hop in and out of the shower to get ready to face the day as quickly as possible. Slow down and opt to take a relaxing and soothing bath, taking your time and enjoying time to yourself. Soak with aromatherapy bath oils, light candles, read a book and enjoy a glass of wine to create a truly indulgent experience.

Unplug from technology for an hour

However you choose to spend your extra hour, try to turn off all of your tech and experience an hour of quality downtime. Put away your laptops, smart phones and tablets in the evening and opt to have a conversation or read a book; helping you to fall asleep easier and enjoy a more restful night’s sleep. Or try to spend an entire day unplugged from all technology, resolving not to check your emails or watch television.

Read our previous post to discover an array of ways for how to spend your downtime unplugged.

Lie in

You could always opt to spend your extra hour lazing in bed on Sunday morning, enjoying the opportunity for catching up on some much needed sleep!
