CHRISTMAS SLOW COOKER HAM

This is a real set and forget recipe, and on top of that it frees up your oven as it only needs a few minutes under the grill before serving.

The ham takes on all the flavours of the spices, and is so tender and juicy.

1. Slice the orange into 1cm slices and USE THEM TO line the bottom of your slow cooker. Place your ham on top.

2. Pour the apple juice over the top util the ham is submerged. How much you need will depend on the size of your ham and pot. Around 2-3 cups should do it.

- 12 cloves

- 12 black peppercorns

4. Cook on low for around 8 hours for a 1kg ham or 10 hours for a 2.5kg ham. (you can let this cook overnight)

5. when done, take out and let drain before glazing.

6. The glaze is super easy and adds to the festive flavour. in a bowl mix together:

4 tablespoons of honey,
3 heaped teaspoons of wholegrain mustard
1 tablespoon sugar
1 teaspoon all spice.

7. Remove the skin of the ham (if it has one) and score the fat with diagonal lines. Pour the glaze over the whole ham

8. Stud the intersections of the lines with whole cloves

9. Put your ham into an oven dish double lined with silver foil (this will protect your dish from baked-on glaze)

10. Pop your ham into the oven and bake at 220C (430f) for around 20 minutes until golden.

allow the ham to rest for around 20 minutes before carving.

ingredients for slow cooked ham

1kg or 2.5kg ham, depending on how many you're feeding
1 orange
2-3 cups apple juice (orange juice also works)
2 bay leaves
2 star anise
12 whole cloves
12 black pepper corns

glaze:
4 tablespoons of honey

1 teaspoon of sugar
1 tablespoon of all spice.
