slow cooker mulled wine
warming your mulled wine in a slow cooker frees up a hob, and keeps it warm without boiling it (which will cook off all the alcohol).
This is a loose recipe, more of a suggestion for a delicious, warming, festive drink. You can switch out any ingredients, and play with the flavours.
This is the way we like it - flavourful and slightly tart.

into your slow cooker pour
2 bottles of wine. Something dry like a cabernet Sauvignon works well. A cheap bottle will do!
We also add half a bottle of cider. you could also use brandy
to the alcohol add:
one sliced orange
2 sticks of cinnamon
¼ cup of maple syrup
6 cardamom pods
2 star anise
12 whole colves
berries will give you mulled wine an extra tang and richness. we added a handful of blackberries and a few red berries (you could use cranberries)
Once everything is in, turn it onto low and let warm through for half an hour. Do not let it boil.
Serve with another slice of orange and a cinnamon stick
I mean, there's so much fruit it pretty much counts as one of my 5 a day!
