Caring for your mahabis
Caring for your mahabis
Your mahabis are made to be lived in. A little care now and then keeps them feeling just as good as the day you first put them on. Below you'll find simple guidance for each material, plus how to look after the lining and insoles.
If you're ever unsure, check the care guidance on our product pages or get in touch. We're always happy to help.
Wool & Felt Uppers
Includes: Classic, Curve, Lite, Mule
Wool is naturally hard-wearing and resists odour, so it rarely needs a full wash.
For everyday marks/ dirt:
Brush off dry dirt and spot-clean with a damp cloth. If needed, use a gentle detergent and leave to air dry.
For a deeper clean:
Remove the insoles and machine wash on a cold, short cycle (no warmer than 30°C) with a gentle detergent. Leave them to air dry naturally, away from radiators and direct sunlight.
Once in a while is fine, but we wouldn't recommend washing them often.
Leather & Suede Uppers
Includes: Dreamer Sandals, Neo Suede & Leather editions
Leather and suede are best cared for by hand.
Brush away any dust and dirt regularly (using a suede brush or even a toothbrush for suede uppers). This keeps the material looking its best. Spot-clean any marks gently by hand.
Please don’t machine wash or soak leather or suede. If they do get wet, let them air dry naturally.
If you find that your mahabis need more than a brush, we recommend picking up some speciality suede/ leather cleaner. Please patch test it before full use, as these cleaners can occasionally alter the colour/ finish of the leather.
Microfibre Suede Uppers
Includes: Neo
Microfibre suede is a very durable and easy material to look after.
For everyday marks/ dirt:
Brush off dry dirt and spot-clean with a damp cloth. If needed, use a gentle detergent.
Shearling Uppers
Includes: Meribel
Shearling is naturally soft, warm, and breathable, and it only needs a little care to stay that way
Brush your pair regularly with a soft brush to lift any dust or dirt and to keep the fibres looking their best.
Spot-clean any marks gently by hand with a damp cloth.
Please do not soak or machine wash shearling. If your pair does get wet, blot away any excess moisture and leave to air dry naturally, away from radiators and direct sunlight.
Trainers
Includes: Volare
The Volare trainers feature a technical knit upper made from recycled PET and a blend of merino wool and graphene, with TPU for durability at the toe and heel and spandex for stretch.
Our trainers are best cared for by hand. Remove the laces and insoles, then clean the uppers with a cloth and a gentle detergent if needed. Rinse lightly if there is residue, and then leave to air dry.
Do not dry on the radiator or in direct sunlight
Wool Lining
Wool linings are soft, breathable, and naturally temperature-regulating. The wool will gradually mould to the shape of your foot.
They're also naturally odour-resistant, so a gentle brush and fresh air between wears is usually all they need.
If the lining needs a refresh, you can spot clean problem areas with a damp cloth and a little wool-safe detergent if needed. Air dry thoroughly before wearing again.
Insoles
Always remove the insoles before cleaning your mahabis. You can keep your insoles fresh by sponge-washing them with a gentle detergent, but don't soak them.
Leave your insoles to air dry completely before putting them back.
